Hair Care: Six Months Later

Hello there Saints! I pray all is well with everyone this day. So sorry for the silence. We had a death in our family right before Thanksgiving so my family and I have been away. To God be the glory. The Lord is still in control. I will be posting details of the death of my nephew Ernest Hoskins, Jr. at a later date.  There are still pending events right now but none the less justice will prevail in the name of Jesus! :o)

So, in May of this year I took the plung and cut my grazing shoulder length hair to ear length. It was a tough decision but a much needed decision. My hair was a mess at the start of my journey in August 2011. My hair broke off so bad in the hair line/edges and various spots in my crown. The right side had broke off the worse. That side broke from
my temple to behind my ear. To top it off I was battling dandruff! Oh my....WHAT A MESS MY HEAD WAY! When I combed my hair down it looked like I had a lopped-sided mullet. I'm not kiding. I tried to convence myself that I could let my hair grow out and cut it little by little but it was too frustrating to see my hair so uneven. So, I got the dandruff under control, started using the right products that best fit my hair and then cut my hair. So the photo I have posted is showing May 2012 the day I cut my hair to now November 2012 where my length now is. I'm sooooo loving the health of my hair and scalp. I am still dandruff free! Now that the weather is cooler and drier I'm taking extra care to stay moisturized. So, far so good.

For the past 2 months I have faithfully moisturized and sealed daily and wash my hair 2x weekly. One co-wash and one shampoo. I prepoo overnite the day before my wash day. On my shampoo day I do a moisturizing deep conditioning with heat for 20 minutes. I am making sure to not use direct heat more than 1x monthly. I did my once monthly flat iron when I did the November photo which was for Thanksgiving Day. The next time I flat iron will be for Christmas Day. In between now and then I will be doing Bantu Knot-outs (my new favorite low-manipulation style) and wear my half wigs or drawstring ponytails. I am anxious to see where the growth of my hair will be in another 6 months. The Lord only knows.

Have a blessed week Saints! And as always, stay near the cross. You never know who you may meet there. :o)

  1. I am so excited to have stumble across your blog. All praises be to GOD. I found someone who is just as excited to talk about GOD of not more. I pray you all the best on your hair care journey and that you have much success. And together we will keep others in prayer who may not be able to take care of their hair like they want & also to teach those who can, especially the younger generation. May GOD BLESS you & your family.
