Hair Regimen

On August 7th, 2011 I began a healthy hair care journey to help over come the poor condition my hair was in. I say was because just within a few months I was able to turn my hair from bad to good. By no means was it easy. There was a lot of trial and error that I went though since I really did not have any clue what I needed to do for my kinky coils. I am African American and I would say my hair type is a 4a/b and African American hair is amongst the driest and most delicate hair there is. Given that, my hair type requires adequate moisture to keep it from being brittle and weak. Going into my hair journey my hair was dry, damage and breaking horribly. On top of that I had suffered majorly with dandruff. That is a very common scalp condition with my hair type because of lack of moisture. Since I was at my wits end of seeing my hair everywhere and dandruff that was out of control, I began researching on the internet about caring for my hair including how to become free of dandruff. I had tried various medicated shampoos and treatments for dandruff but no matter what I did it always came back. Once I started my hair care journey and I figured out what my hair likes and dislikes, I am now dandruff free! Still today I make sure to do whatever I can to remain free of dandruff. The biggest things that has helped me become dandruff free is doing conditioner only washes (co-wash), moisturizing regularly and sealing my moisture in with a 100% pure oil (i.e. sweet almond oil).

Now there's a new chapter in my hair journey. I have decided to grow out my natural texture. I will no longer chemically texturize/relax my hair. I'm very excited about this new journey in my hair care. My last and final texlax/texturizer was October 5, 2012. My hair care products will change slighty I'm sure  but we shall see as my natural texture continues to emerge. UPDATE: As of August 17th, 2013 I am now officially NATURAL! :o)

Below I have listed the oils, products and techniques I do faithfully to keep my hair healthy and my scalp free of dandruff. My hair continues to grow at an amazing rate and I give all the thanks to my Lord and Saviour because had I not looked to Him for continuous guidance, I would have never made it this far through my hair journey. I'm currently natural and at neck length. My goal is still shoulder blade length. Please keep in mind these are products, methods and oils that work for me. Everyone has a different hair type so what works for some may not work for others. Definitely feel free to try out some the items and techniques that I use in my hair care. If  you need any help or have questions on how to get started, please email me at m.michelle@s2tn.com. I will be more than happy to help you through your healthy hair care journey. Be blessed! :o)
