Deep Conditioning Treatment

Hello Saints! Well, it is Friday! Today I am going to do my deep condtioning treatment. I have faithfully been doing deep conditioing treatments once a week. Even when I do not feel like it, I get it done. There are somethings that I do not want to slack in and one of them is being diligent about my hair care. :o)

Last week I ran out of my Beautiful Textures Deep Moisture deep conditioner so I needed to restock. This was a great opportunity to try something different. This time I picked up Elasta QP DRP-11 deep conditioner. I had used it before a few years ago when I was relaxing my hair. They have changed the ingredients since so I am giving it another try on my now texlaxed hair.

When I do my deep conditioning treatment I add some additional ingredients to give my treatment a little something extra for the benefit of my hair. I learned adding oils and additional humectants like honey can really increase moisture and softness to the hair. So here is my deep conditioning mix I did today:
  • 1.5 tbsp Elasta QP DRP-10 deep conditioner
  • 1 tbsp Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor protein treatment (light protein)
  • 1 tbsp mustard seed oil mix (included jojoba oil, Wild Grow oil and Vatika Herbal Infused coconut oil)
I mixed it all together in a separate bowl and applied to my freshly shampoo'd t-shirt dried hair. I used an application brush that is used for relaxers or dyeing hair. It makes getting to my roots and new growth a breeze. I felt when I was rubbing it on with my hands I was not getting deep enough to my roots and new growth that way. Since I have been using the application brush I now have even distribution from roots to ends.

Once the deep conditioner mix is in I cover my hair with a plastic cap and sit under my hood dryer for 15-20 minutes. Everyone seems to feel different about how much time is needed in order for the deep conditioner to penetrate or condition the hair. I cannot speak for others but for me 20 minutes is more than enough time for deep conditioners to work in my hair. I have tried 30-40 minutes and my hair was over moisturized. Not a pleasant experience.  The only other time I have done a deep conditioning for a lengthy time was applying it to my dry hair the night before and leaving it in over night. That worked out well for my hair but it has been awhile since I have done that. Maybe next week I will do an overnight deep conditioning treatment and blog my results.

Once I finish my deep conditioning treatment I co-wash it out using a moisturizing conditioner like Herbal Essences Hello Hydration conditioner. There after I either blow dry and flat iron or do a roller set. Recently I have been doing a roller set to limit direct heat on my hair. So today I am doing a roller set.

I pray all is well with everyone this day and every day. Have a great weekend and as always, stay near the cross. You never know who you may meet there. Be blessed! :o)

  1. I also recently purchased this DC & I mix it with my oils (EVOO, JBCO, Avocado Oil, Wheatgerm Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Peppermint Oil, Tea Tree Oil, & Eucalyptus Oil) & steamed for 15 minutes (I also don't believe in DCing for more than 30 minutes). I love it ! My hair is relaxed & it made my hair so buttery smooth and manageable ! I also love the consistency; goopy and not too thick. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. HHJ !
