My Favorite Moisturizer: S-Curl No Drip!

When I first started my healthy hair care journey in August 2011 I was trying out various oils, conditioners, shampoos and moisturizers. I went through a LOT of trial error my first year especially with finding a good moisturizer.

I have 4a/b-ish hair which anyone with this type of hair texture knows that it runs dry quite often. I live in Florida so our Summers are pretty humid which is great for my hair type but the Florida winters are on the dry side too. Since I started my hair journey at the end of Summer going into Fall I needed to get on the ball to get a good daily moisturizer.

I had searched up and down Bing and Google to see what moisturizers where good for 4 type relaxed hair. I had tried the Pink Moisturizer (yuck) and then Olive Moisturizing lotion (no thanks) in the past. I kept going back to those two since I did not know any better. Each time I never liked how my hair felt. It felt wet, weighed down and more dry once the wetness went away. I came to a conclusion that hair lotions were not for me.  I came across a blog called Hairlicous by a beautiful young landy named Sunshyne and was beyound thrilled by all th information she has on hair care. To help even more she too has relaxed 4 type hair too. I have been a fan of her blog since and I am greatful for her social hair network Hairlista. On Hairlista there is a list of Top 10 Moisturizers which was the help I needed because I did not know where to start.

So among the list there was Wave Nouveau and S-Curl. I had knowledge of both of those products but I never would have though I could use them on my relaxed hair. I tried the S-Curl first since there was a lot of encouragement for this moisturizer. I guess I did not know for sure how I needed to apply it but I did not like it at all. I think I was applying it like I really did have an S-Curl because my hair was pretty saturated (LOL). I gave up on it and went to Wave Nouveau. Well that hung around for quite some time as my moisturizer. Then I discovered it had a small level of protein in the ingredients. It was not bad but I was mositurizing daily with that plus doing weekly light protein treatments. So, eventually I ended up with protien overload. Needless to say, it was time to re-think the products I was using.

I started stretching my relaxers up to 12 weeks which was tough since I still did not have a good moisturizer I was happy with. I started texlaxing in December 2011 which worked out great but I was still in need of a moisturizer. February 2012 was when I did my last texlax and since then I stopped using the Wave Nouveau and after much prayer and frustration I decided to give S-Curl No Drip another try. I had cut a majority of my relaxed ends in May so I have more natural texture then processed. I am sooooo glad I went back to the S-Curl! It has done wonders in keeping my hair moisturized. I could not be on month 7 of my stretch without it.

If anyone is looking for a great moisturizer I highly recommend S-Curl No Drip. It's light, it can be used as a leave-in and does not weigh the hair down. It works wonders on new growth while stretching. I spray it directly on my new growth and seal roots to ends with a pure oil and I'm good to go. If you are planning on flat ironing your hair I do not recommend using it prior. Since it is so moisturizing the hair will not smooth out with the flat iron.

I pray all is well with everyone this day and every day. As alway, stay near the cross. You never know who you may meet there. Be blessed Saints! :o)

  1. Hi CBCLady (I'm sure you replied to my Hairlista discussion once!). I know I'm about three years late commenting on this post but I found your website after a search for S-curl reviews. Like you, I used this very early on in my journey and wrongly saturated my hair which left it sticky and weighed down. Three years later I've decided to give it another try. I'm aware there's a new formula now which is very perfumed but after a couple of sprays per section and my hair is in heaven. Funny how things work out! Do you still use this moisturiser?

    1. Hello Aicha! I actually still use S-Curl No Drip in the original formula. Only when I have crochet braids in. It is quick and easy to keep my hair moisturized while protective styling. I love the way the new formula smells but the original keeps my hair moisturized longer. I used the new formula in my daughter's hair which was awesome but I stopped using products with silicons in here tight coily hair. Her hair stays moisturized effortlessly now too. I'm glad S-Curl is working out for you. It's fascinating how that works with products and our hair. Blessings! :o)
